The first traces of my arrival on the island of Java date back 80,000 years.
I was a mini tiger, for a mini territory, much smaller than my cousins - but I still weighed about 100 kgs!
Like them my coat was orange with stripes, but darker.
But I was a predator and that was my downfall.
Of course I ate wild boar, but sometimes I also ate cattle. So I was hunted for that and also for my fur.
I had to take refuge in the mountains, on land that had become insufficient to find enough to survive on.
Regularly, people claim to still see me.
They say that I have a human soul, that I protect the forest by frightening men and that in return, the forest protects me.
Too bad it's only a legend!
