VAHINA

Hello!

My name is Vahina and I'm 10 years old. I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and I think I am so lucky because Rio, for me, is the most wooded city in the world. Here you can find many plants, trees, water areas, etc. On one side, there's the sea and on the other, the forest and the mountains. In fact, for me and for many others, it's nature's paradise. Brazil produces a lot of natural wealth, but I think that the Earth is being overexploited and the next ressource to be exploited, after oil, is water. In my country, there is the biggest rainforest and the biggest river in the world! Brazil is a beautiful country, perhaps the most beautiful in the world, but if we do nothing, this natural treasure will be wiped out.

We must stop over-consuming, producing too much waste, polluting and buying over-packaged products! Animals and plants are also living beings and they deserve to be respected! It is up to Humans to repair their own mistakes! We must realize that without nature, we cannot survive! What disgusts me the most is to know that everyone is experiencing this and that practicly no one decides to do anything about it! To know that we are living the sixth mass extinction since the dinosaurs and that an animal species disappears every 15 minutes on Earth! To know that 100,000 marine mammals and 1 million birds die every year from ingesting plastic and that 200kg of waste are dumped into the ocean every second! To know that three quarters of the planet continues to buy packs of mineral water and non-organic food with so many packages simply because they don't want to make the effort to go to the market and buy organic products in bulk. We need to wake up and open our eyes. The reality is that our planet is almost entirely polluted. We must ask ourselves those questions. When will the whole world go green? When will we decide to get involved and save the environment?
